Matt is the Head Instructor and Owner of Hunter Martial Arts Academy. He has been studying Martial Arts for over 17 years and full time Instructor for over 12 years. Matt has a mixed martial arts background which includes training in Western Boxing, Judo, Jujitsu, Kickboxing, Self-Defence and various forms of Hand To Hand Combat. He is also experienced in Kobudo weaponry and Weapons disarmament training.
Matt also has extensive knowledge in self-defence, and holds various diploma's in several areas of advanced self-defence which include awards for children and young adults 'Self Protection'. He has also achieved a high standard of knowledge in women's self-defence which have all been recognised and approved by Master Dave Turton 8th Dan, head of the Self Defence Federation (SDF).
In September 2008 Master Turton appointed Matt an official SDF Tutor/Assessor and awarded him with a Masters Degree in Self-Defence. Matt has since trained in the current SDF's own Self-Defence System, which is recognised by some of the UK's best 'self-protection' and 'personal safety' experts. In April 2009 Matt was assessed by Master Turton on both the physical technique and the main principle requirements within the SDF SELF-DEFENCE SYSTEM. On completion, Matt achieved a 1st Degree Black Belt in SDF Self Defence.
During Matt's years has an instructor, he has been actively developing and implementing, several specialized programs for young children dealing with issues such as bullying and also stranger awareness programs for pre-school kids. These programs have been designed with the help of, extensive research with Black Belt expert advice. He and his team of instructors teach these programs in Community Seminars as well as in his main scheduled classes.
